MOSES invites everybody to attend a free public meeting on Sunday, October 5, at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 5251 E. Outer Drive, Detroit 48234 from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. As many as 1,000 people are expected to turn out to make a statement and commitment to work for the Pillars of Fire that are the core principles around which MOSES is built. Government officials and candidates for office will attend and be asked to support the goals articulated in the MOSES Pillars of Fire. October 5 is one prior to the last day the register to vote in the Fall elections. Those present will be asked to help get out the vote for the November 4 election.
MOSES (Metropolitan Organizing, Strategy Enabling Strength) is comprised of a group of diverse Detroit area congregations working to to organize communities, develop leaders and build relationships to advocate for social justice. Sr. Rosemarie Abate, HVM, has been helping to plan the October 5 public meeting.
The Pillars of Fire include:
Economic dignity: a state budget that invests in education, infrastructure and people.
Healthy communities: essential human services, education and public transportation.
Education equity: improved, well-funded public schools.
Transparency and accountability: understandable budgeting processes and transparency from government officials as they determine state priorities.
Transportation: improved public transit options in and between the state’s metropolitan regions.
